British American Tobacco Croatia has an exciting opportunity for an Adria Senior Indirect Tax Manager in Zagreb

 

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Take responsibility for indirect tax compliance across VAT, customs, and excise, making sure all external compliance obligations are met.
  • Set up and maintain clear processes, controls, and policies to ensure BAT’s operations are conducted in compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee tax filings and payments, classification, licensing for VAT, customs, excise, ensuring they are accurate, on time, and managed efficiently.
  • Keep track of compliance performance, including reviewing how policies are applied and checking filings after submission.
  • Ensure delivery of all internal indirect tax reporting requirements in compliance with SOx requirements (relevant market/s) and operational needs (such as internal/external destruction and waste reporting requirements in factory).
  • Support Area Head of Customs & Excise Governance in managing excise and customs audits in the market/s work with tax authorities, respond to queries from authorities and help manage audits that cover multiple indirect tax areas, and coordinating closely with the Corporate Tax team.
  • Work with external providers (such as brokers and logistics partners) to ensure operations stay compliant.
  • Provide guidance and proactive support on indirect tax matters and risks, including changes in legislation and business initiatives (such as roll-out of New Categories and assessing compliance requirements of projects in terms of route-to-market optimisation, new product introductions, etc.), as well as develop and deploy trainings in indirect taxation area, as needed.  
  • Manage and report the indirect tax risks, highlighting where the business requires provisions for emerging issues, and ensure implementation of mandatory group governance requirements.
  • Contribute to improvements in ways of working, share knowledge within the team, and support a responsible and ethical work environment.

 

What are we looking for

  • A relevant degree, along with a professional qualification in tax, accounting, economics or law.
  • At least 7 years of similar experience in excise and customs within ‘big 4’ accounting firms, other equivalent multi-national organisations, or customs and excise authority, or relevant supply chain role.
  • Ability to work well with different teams and build effective working relationships.
  • Experience managing external partners and ensuring they meet compliance expectations.
  • Practical experience with tax audits and handling discussions with authorities.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, customs, and excise rules and how they apply in practice.
  • Familiarity with financial systems, including SAP or similar tools.
  • Understanding of supply chain or manufacturing environments.
  • Solid analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and work with data.
  • Experience working in an international setting, including crossborder tax matters and dealing with external stakeholders.
